Consumer Reports recommends Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen TDI for more fuel efficiency.
Consumer Report test four vehicles, each from different auto maker for fuel efficiency. For their upcoming January 2011 issue, Magazine tested 2011 Ford Fiesta, Honda CR-Z, Mazda2 and Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen TDI.
With the end of testing, they recommend Vw's Jetta Sportswagen TDI. On the other side Honda CR-Z scored too low to be recommended to its viewers.
They didn't come to any conclusion about both Fiesta and Mazda2, since they are two new models with less data, but they seems to like both the vehicles.
Testing the two variants each of the Mazda and Ford subcompacts, manual and auto transmission. Fiesta impressed slightly higher than the Mazda2 overall.
From their test, the Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen TDI performed admirably, having a fuel efficiency of 36 mpg overall and a 49 mpg on the highway.

New Volkswagen Jetta headed to Europe
Volkswagen has announced that the 2011 Jetta will make the 'trip' to its homeland next year and will start at €20,900 in Germany. Promising to inject "a new dimension of quality to the saloons of the compact class," that opening gambit price will get you the 103-horsepower, 1.2 TSI model in Trendline trim. Big spenders can get in at the top of the pile by choosing the Highline trim with the 2.0 TDI DSG for €29,950.
Five engines are available throughout, three gas and two diesels, all of which can be paired with either a manual or DSG dual clutch transmission except for the 103-hp 1.2-liter gas. VW is also touting its BlueMotion Technology tech available on one of the gas and two of the diesel lumps, such as the 1.6 TDI BMT that sips 4.2 l/100 km, or 56 miles per gallon in U.S. parlance. You'll find all the info on the Euro-spec Jettas in the press release after the jump.

Volkswagen Jetta

The Volkswagen Jetta is an automobile produced by German automaker Volkswagen since 1979. Depending upon the model year, country of origin, and country of sale, it is sometimes known as the Atlantic, City Jetta, Fox, Vento, Bora, or Sagitar. It is essentially the saloon / sedan version of the compact car / small family car Volkswagen Golf, and spans five generations. The Jetta name was derived from the Jet stream, following Volkswagen's long tradition of naming cars for various winds.
The Jetta body style was developed due in part to the Volkswagen marketing group's observation that the North American market leaned more towards sedans as opposed to the Golf's hatchback configuration. The new saloon variant was marketed as a more upscale car than its tailgated brethren, with nicer interior trim and a higher price. This proved to be a wise move on Volkswagen's part, as the Jetta became the best-selling European car in the United States and Canada. Over the years, the car has been offered in two and four-door sedan and five-door station wagon variants. As of 2005, over 6.6 million cars have been sold worldwide, with over 2.2 million alone sold in the United States. Since the original version in 1980, the car has grown in size and power with each successive generation.
